Golfo Aranci - The Gulf of Crabs

As we would be led to think, Golfo Aranci does not owe its name to expanses of orange trees. The origin of the name is most likely due to a misinterpretation made by Piedmontese cartographers in the mid-twentieth century who transformed Gulfu di li Ranci, Golfo dei Granchi, into Golfo Aranci. Another hypothesis goes back to the name of sos Aranzos beach, located on the stretch of coast between Olbia and Golfo Aranci.

The promontory of Capo Figari and Guglielmo Marconi

The town stands on the peninsula overlooking the Gulf of Olbia and culminating in the promontory of Capo Figari.
This limestone promontory, characterized by high cliffs, is a beautiful open-air nature museum. The area is ideal for diving and trekking to admire all the beauty of the landscape and discover the treasures of the crystal clear sea.
Capo Figari is recognized as a Site of Community Importance (SCI) together with the Island of Figarolo and also has a historical importance: the promontory hosts the "Semaforo della Marina militare", also known as the Marconi Lighthouse. In 1932, it was precisely this famous structure that hosted the research and experiments on radio telephony carried out by Guglielmo Marconi who, from there, managed to connect by radio to Rome via the ship Elettra located in the sea of Golfo Aranci. This important result was celebrated some years ago by the realization of the sculpture Colonna di Luce.

MuMart and Mizar

Off the beaches of the Capo Figari promontory is the MuMart, a maritime museum of underwater contemporary art. The museum, which houses the installations of fourteen contemporary art artists, exhibits works by subjects related to the marine world anchored to the seabed at a depth ranging from 3 to 7 meters. The installations are immersed and surrounded by the local flora and fauna and offer visitors an exciting and unique experience. The museum can be visited both by snorkeling activities and organized excursions on board the semi-submersible Mizar I. Thanks to its large windows, from Mizar I it is possible to enjoy a 360° view of the museum's works and the entire seabed.

The five beaches

If you decide to buy one of the houses for sale in Golfo Aranci, you will have a wide choice of wonderful places to spend your days.
First of all the Five Beaches.
The Five Beaches are those near the city and are all characterized by white sand and crystal clear sea. The first, from which you can admire the island of Tavolara, is in the centre of the town and is divided from the second by a granite spur. The third is the largest and its emerald sea offers memorable plays of light. The fourth is in front of Capo Figari and is divided by the fifth, a small natural swimming pool, by a cliff. In addition to the city beaches, other natural, wild or equipped paradises await you.
Towards Olbia you can meet Cala Sassari, Cala Banana, Baia Caddinas or the beaches of Baia de Bahas.
Towards Porto Rotondo instead you will find the beach of Marinella.
Around Capo Figari, finally, the golden sandy beaches of Cala Sabina and Cala Moresca, as well as the pink pebble beach of Cala Greca.
